WHY SHOULD I REPORT AN OVERDOSE?

Reporting the use of Narcan in an emergency overdose is crucial for several reasons: It helps gather data on overdose incidents, which can inform public health responses and strategies to combat deaths caused by overdose. Reporting allows health authorities to identify trends, such as spikes in overdoses or the emergence of new substances in the community.

Accurate reporting can guide the allocation of resources, ensuring that areas with high overdose rates receive more support, such was distribution of Narcan and access to treatment. Increased reporting also helps to raise awareness about the risk of opioid use and the importance of having Narcan available, leading to more training and education for the public and first responders. It allows for the assessment of the effectiveness of harm reduction programs, such as Operation Life Support.

Overall, reporting Narcan use is vital for improving community health resources and enhancing the effectiveness of substance use disorder treatment, allowing for policy reform, and informing local and state governments about the effectiveness of current prevention strategies and highlighting the need for new policies or funding to address the opioid epidemic.
